Method
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large mixing bowl, prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions. Combine it with 1 cup of water, 1/2 cup of vegetable oil, and 3 large eggs. Mix until all ingredients are well incorporated.
- Gently fold in the chopped fresh strawberries into the batter.
Baking
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, beat together the softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup of powdered sugar, 1/2 cup of sour cream, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract until smooth.
Final Steps
- Once the cake is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to cool slightly. Press down on the surface of the cake to create little 'earthquakes' or cracks.
- Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the top of the cake.
- Return the cake to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
- For the topping, whisk together 1 cup of powdered sugar and 1/4 cup of milk until smooth and drizzle it over the cake.
- Garnish with fresh sliced strawberries and serve warm.
Notes
For an extra touch of flavor, add a pinch of salt to the cream cheese mixture. You can also use store-bought frosting to save time.
