  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract aromatic essence that enhances the cookie's natural flavors
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract provides a beautiful depth of flavor
Decoration
  • Powdered sugar (for icing) what will make your cookies shine and sparkle
  • Food coloring (optional) to add a pop of color for festive appeal
  • Sprinkles (for decoration) because every cookie is better with a little sparkle

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the sour cream, egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract until well blended.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into two halves, wrap each half in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Baking
  1. On a floured surface, roll out one portion of the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  2. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes from the rolled-out dough and place them on the prepared baking sheets.
  3. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  4. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks.
Decorating
  1. Mix powdered sugar with a small amount of water or milk until smooth for icing.
  2. Add food coloring if desired and let your creativity flow by decorating the cooled cookies with icing and sprinkles.

Notes

Ensure butter is softened but not melted for perfect creaminess. Use flour to dust your work surface and cookie cutters for easier handling. Allow cookies to cool completely before icing.
