Method
Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until everything is well incorporated.
- Form the mixture into four equal patties, making them a bit thicker in the center.
Cooking the Patties
- Heat vegetable oil in a sizable skillet over medium heat.
- Carefully place the patties in, cooking them for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they’re nicely browned and cooked through.
- Once done, remove them from the skillet and set aside on a plate.
Sautéing Onions
- In the same skillet, add the sliced onions.
- Sauté them until softened and slightly caramelized, which should take around 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the flour and garlic powder, cooking them for an additional 1-2 minutes until the flour is lightly golden.
Making the Gravy
- Gradually pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce while stirring continuously to prevent lumps.
- Continue stirring until the mixture thickens; season with salt and pepper to taste.
Simmering
- Return the hamburger patties to the skillet, spooning the rich gravy over them.
- Cover the skillet and let everything simmer together for 5-10 minutes.
Serving
- Serve this dish hot, topped generous with the savory gravy and onions, ensuring each bite bursts with flavor.
Notes
For extra flavor, consider adding sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers. Serve over mashed potatoes or rice for a heartier meal. Chill patties for 15 minutes before frying for better shape retention.
