Caramelizing Onions
- In a skillet, heat the butter and olive oil over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onion, seasoning it with salt and pepper.
- Cook slowly, stirring occasionally, until the onions are golden brown and caramelized, which should take about 15-20 minutes. Once caramelized, remove from heat.
Preparing the Sandwich
- While the onions are cooking, slice the bagels in half. If desired, lightly toast them.
- On one half of each bagel, layer the caramelized onions, sliced pears, sliced apples, and shredded cheddar cheese.
- Place the other half of the bagel on top to create the sandwich.
Grilling
- Wipe the skillet clean and place it back on medium heat. Add a little butter to the skillet.
- Place the assembled sandwiches in the pan and grill for about 3-4 minutes on each side, pressing down gently with a spatula.
- Aim for a golden brown exterior and melted cheese inside.
Serving
- Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and drizzle with honey if desired.
- Slice in half and enjoy your delicious sandwich!
