  • 1-2 jalapeños (sliced, optional) For extra spice.
  • 1 tbsp lime juice Brightens up flavors.
  • to taste Fresh cilantro (for garnish) Enhances presentation.

Method

Preparation
  1. Season the beef generously with salt, pepper, chili powder, cumin, paprika, oregano, and cinnamon (if using).
  2. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat it over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned beef and sear it on all sides until browned, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  3. Once seared, add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and sauté for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  4. Pour in the diced tomatoes and beef broth, followed by lime juice. Stir to combine.
  5. Add jalapeños if using and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer.
  6. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Allow the beef to cook for 3-4 hours or until tender and easily shredded.
  7. Once cooked, shred the beef using two forks, mixing well with the sauce. If the mixture seems dry, add a splash of beef broth.
  8. Serve and enjoy your shredded beef in tacos, burritos, or over rice, garnishing with fresh cilantro.

Notes

For intense flavors, marinate the beef overnight with spices and beef broth. Experiment with spices like smoked paprika for deeper flavor. If short on time, use a pressure cooker to reduce cooking time.
