Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour Provides structure to the cookie.
  • 1 tsp baking soda Helps cookies rise and become fluffy.
  • 1/4 tsp salt Balances the sweetness.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Provides rich, creamy goodness.
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar Adds sweetness and helps with texture.
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar Adds caramel flavor.
  • 2 large eggs Binds ingredients together.
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract Adds warm flavor.
Mix-Ins
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherries, drained and chopped Adds a sweet, fruity burst.
  • 1 1/2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips Provides rich chocolate flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream softened butter and both sugars until smooth and creamy.
  4. Mix in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  5. Gradually stir the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the chopped maraschino cherries and semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  7. Using a spoon or cookie scoop, drop dough onto prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden and centers are set but slightly soft.
  9. Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Use the spoon-and-level method for measuring flour to avoid dense cookies. Chill dough for 30 minutes for thicker cookies. Experiment with different chocolate types or nuts. Replace maraschino cherries with fresh cherries in season for a different flavor.
