Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat.
- In a large bowl, combine the cooked sausage, ricotta cheese, ½ cup of mozzarella cheese, Parmesan cheese, beaten egg, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
Assembly
- Take a cooked lasagna noodle and lay it flat on a surface. Spoon 2-3 tablespoons of the sausage mixture onto the noodle and roll it up tightly. Place seam side down in the baking dish. Repeat with all remaining noodles and filling.
- Pour the remaining marinara sauce over the roll-ups, ensuring each is generously coated. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
Baking
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish with fresh basil or parsley before serving.
Notes
For a healthier dish, use whole-wheat lasagna noodles or turkey sausage. Leftovers can be assembled and frozen for later use.
