- Heat heavy cream and milk in a saucepan over medium heat until warm.
- Gradually pour the warm cream mixture into the egg mixture while whisking continuously.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and whisk constantly on medium-low heat until thickened.
- Stir in vanilla extract and let cool slightly.
Assembly and Baking
- Generously spoon custard onto each puff pastry heart, leaving a small border.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Once cooled, top with halved cherries and dust with powdered sugar if desired.
