  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 loaf Italian or French bread (about 12 inches long) for serving
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing) for extra flavor and crispness

Method

Cook the Steak and Vegetables
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once shimmering, add the ribeye steak slices and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned.
  2. Add the sliced onion and optional bell pepper, sautéing for another 2-3 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant. Season with salt and pepper to taste and set aside.
Prepare the Garlic Butter Mixture
  1. In a small bowl, combine melted butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, dried oregano, and a pinch of salt. Mix well.
Prep the Bread and Assemble
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise and hollow out the inside, leaving a small edge.
  2. Brush the inside with half of the garlic butter mixture. Layer the philly cheesesteak mixture inside the bread, followed by the provolone and cheddar cheeses.
  3. Brush the outside of the bread with the remaining garlic butter mixture.
Bake and Serve
  1. Place the assembled loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden and bubbly.
  2. Let cool slightly before slicing and serve warm.

Notes

Consider adding sautéed mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor. Use leaner cuts or lower-fat cheeses for a healthier version. Always ensure your bread is fresh for the best texture.
