Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef Choose a mix with some fat for moisture and richness.
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix Adds a depth of flavor that's hard to resist.
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs Helps bind the meatloaf while enhancing texture.
  • 0.5 cup milk For added moisture and tenderness.
  • 2 large eggs Acts as a binding agent for the meatloaf.
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese For a nutty and savory flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Adds umami and complexity.
  • 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder A hint of garlic elevates the dish.
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper For a touch of warmth.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese Adds melty cheese goodness.
  • 0.5 cup French fried onions Added crunch and flavor on top.
  • 0.25 cup ketchup A classic topping that brings sweetness.
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar For a sweet and tangy combination.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Used again for flavor boost on top.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, French onion soup mix, breadcrumbs, milk, eggs, Parmesan cheese, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Press half of the meatloaf mixture into the prepared loaf pan, ensuring an even layer.
  4. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese generously over it.
  5. Finish with the remaining meatloaf mixture, pressing it down gently to seal in the cheese.
Baking
  1. In a small bowl, mix the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Spread this glaze over the top of the meatloaf.
  2. Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until the meatloaf is cooked through, reaching an internal temperature of 160°F (70°C).
  3. In the last 10 minutes of baking, sprinkle the French fried onions on top.
  4. Let the meatloaf rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, mix the ingredients gently—overmixing can lead to a dense meatloaf. Consider using ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version. Let the meatloaf rest after baking to help juices redistribute.
