Method
Prepare the Tart Shell
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and powdered sugar until well blended.
- Cut in the cold cubed butter with a pastry cutter or your fingertips until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the egg yolk and cold water, and mix gently until the dough starts to come together.
- Press the dough into a tart pan, covering the base and sides evenly.
- Lightly prick the tart base with a fork to prevent bubbling.
- Chill the crust in the refrigerator for 10 minutes, then bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown. Allow to cool completely.
Prepare the Filling
- In a mixing bowl, whip the heavy cream, adding in granulated sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Gently fold in the pink food coloring until the color is evenly distributed.
Assemble the Tart
- Spoon the whipped filling into the cooled tart crust, spreading it evenly.
- Decorate with fresh edible flowers or fondant decorations, and dust with powdered sugar.
- Chill in the refrigerator for 2-3 hours to set.
Notes
Chill ingredients to achieve a flaky crust. For a decorative touch, consider piping the cream into the tart using a star-shaped tip. Experiment with flavors by adding lemon or almond extract.
