Preparation
- In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently until the yeast dissolves and allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until bubbly.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt and mix well.
- Add the yeast mixture into the bowl with flour, along with softened butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Stir until combined.
- On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a greased bowl, cover with a damp towel, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled.
Baking
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Once risen, punch the dough down and roll out into a rectangle (16x12 inches).
- Spread the melted butter over the rolled-out dough and sprinkle with the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log shape and slice into 12 equal pieces.
- Arrange the rolls in the baking dish, ensuring they are close together but not overcrowded.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
Finishing Touch
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the icing by beating together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth.
- Once the rolls have baked and slightly cooled, generously ice the rolls and serve warm.
Notes
For extra flavor, add nutmeg with the cinnamon and brown sugar. Ensure the milk is warm to activate yeast properly. Consider a second rise for fluffier rolls. You can customize fillings with nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips.
