  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract A hint of vanilla enhances the overall flavor profile.
Cinnamon Swirl Mixture
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar More sweetness for the swirl.
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon The magic ingredient for that beautiful cinnamon layer.
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted Ensures the swirl sticks beautifully throughout the bread.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan to ensure that your bread doesn’t stick as it bakes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together 2 cups of flour, 1 tablespoon of baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, and 1/2 cup of sugar until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together 1 large egg, 1 cup of buttermilk, 1/4 cup of melted butter, and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract to form the wet mixture.
  4. Gently pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to keep the bread tender.
  5. In a small bowl, prepare your cinnamon swirl by combining 1/4 cup of sugar, 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of melted butter until well mixed.
Baking
  1. Transfer half of the batter to your prepared loaf pan and drizzle half of the cinnamon mixture over the batter.
  2. Add the remaining batter and top it with the rest of the cinnamon mixture.
  3. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the cinnamon mixture into the batter.
  4. Bake in your preheated oven for 50-60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cooling
  1. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before gently transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For best results, consider the following:
- Buttermilk Substitute: Mix 1 cup of milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice to create buttermilk.
- Swirl Variation: You can add nuts, raisins, or chocolate chips to the batter for extra texture.
- Make Ahead: Prepare the batter and refrigerate for a quick bake in the morning.
