Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease or line a 9x13-inch baking dish with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and salt.
Mixing
- In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy—about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, followed by the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Transfer the dough into the prepared baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
Topping and Baking
- In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon for the topping.
- Evenly sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the top of the dough.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, checking for doneness with a toothpick.
Cooling and Serving
- Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
Use room temperature ingredients for better incorporation. Don’t over-bake, and consider adding chocolate chips or nuts for variations.
