Ingredients
  

For the meat mixture
  • 1.5 lbs ground beef Seasoned to taste
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 1 large egg Beaten
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
For the cheese topping and vegetables
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Can use other cheese types
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (carrots, peas, corn)
  • 0.25 cup fresh parsley, chopped For garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, egg, onion, garlic, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Spread the meat mixture evenly in your prepared baking dish, pressing down slightly to form a solid base.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove the casserole from the oven and sprinkle the cheddar and Parmesan cheese over the top, then add the mixed vegetables.
  3. Return the casserole to the oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  4. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.

Notes

You can add chopped bell peppers for extra crunch. Experiment with different cheeses, and consider using pre-shredded cheese for convenience. Allow the casserole to rest for a few minutes before serving.
