Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by greasing and flouring them or lining them with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, black cocoa powder, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, granulated sugar, vegetable oil, softened butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and white vinegar. Add the black food coloring to achieve your desired shade.
  4. Gradually combine the dry ingredients into the wet mixture. Stir gently until just incorporated.
  5. Divide the batter evenly into your prepared cake pans.
Baking
  1. Bake in your preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Cooling & Frosting
  1. Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
